Swagman Hitch Bike Racks Review - 2018 Ford Taurus

Hey everybody, how's it going Today we're gonna be going over the Swagman XC2 two bike rack here on our 2018 Ford Taurus. Now the Swagman XC2 is an excellent entry level bike rack option for you and a friend. So there's two main types of bike racks, there's the hang style and then there's a flat horn style. Now the hang style generally or more cost effective, they're also a little bit lighter. However this particular platform rack here, really does both of those things well as well, because it only weighs about 25 pounds, therefore it's easy to get on and off the vehicle. And it's definitely at a nice price point for those entry level options. more

Speaker 1: Today on our 2017 Ford Taurus we're going to be test fitting the Hollywood Rack Sport Rider two bike platform rack for 1 1/4 and 2 inch hitches, part number HR1000. We already have a bike installed on the rack. Let's take a closer look and show off some of the features.Like most platform style racks, this can tilt away from the vehicle to gain rear trunk or hatch access, and it does utilize the two pins up at the front to do this. There's other models that are out there that have the handle towards the front, which may make it a little bit easier. To do that, we'll first remove the larger pin, and the smaller, then holding onto the bike rack we'll let it tilt towards us. Now we have a decent amount of access to our trunk and plenty of space in between the bumper and the bike rack to get what we need. more

Kuat Hitch Bike Racks Review - 2017 Ford Taurus

Speaker 1: Today on our 2017 Ford Taurus, we're going to be test fitting the Kuat Transfer Two Bike Platform Rack for 1-1/4" and 2" hitches, part number TS02G.We already have our bike installed on the rack. Let's take a closer look at it. What kind of sets this apart from the other platform style bike racks is while like most of them it does tilt away from the vehicle with both bikes attached to gain trunk access, this one as opposed to having to go up to the front and loosening up pins and having to hold it in place, all you do is you go up to this, holding onto the bike rack, you go to this foot pedal, push down, and let it tilt toward you. Now we have full trunk access to get what we need. TO put it back up, you simply lift up by the bike rack, never the bikes, until you hear that click. How this holds the bike in place will have two points of contact. We're going to have a little strap here in the back to hold our rear tire in place, and we'll also have this wheel hook up at the front holding it down, so there's not going to be any frame contact at all. more

Let's take a closer look and show off some of the features. This is a bit different than the previous models as the previous model double track would actually have a frame hook that would push down and hold the bike in place. Instead, here we have a frame clamp that can swing in and out of the way to make loading and unloading much easier. They also switched up how the wheel cradles work here. Where before you would have a knob that you would turn to the left or right to move them, but this way you only have a handle here that you can slide it back and forth, and then push it down into place for it to stay in place. more

We'll have two hook-and-loop straps at the base here, and the wheel wells are adjustable by loosening and tightening these knobs and moving them back and forth along the arms to accommodate bikes of different size, but also to help out with loading.Up at the top here we do have a padded frame hook. This is padded to ensure that the frame of your bike doesn't have any scratches or damage to it once it's being installed.Let's go ahead and take the bike off and set it aside. Start with the hook-and-loop straps. One thing I would like to point out is that this does have a raised shank to it as well. more

We'll begin our test fit by assembling the insert and inserting the shank into the hitch. The adapter is two plates with the hole drilled through it. We're going to align those up. Now, I like to keep a hand on it as you insert it in to the hitch so the plate's hole doesn't come out of place with the hole in the shank. You need to line them up with the hitch hole. As you can see with our mast in the upright position we do have access to our trunk. However for larger items or easier access we'll simply pull the black pin at the base of the mast. This will allow us to tilt it away from our vehicle giving full access to our trunk. With our mast back in the upright position and our pin reinserted we'll now extend our dual cradle arms. more
